Day One Competition Update

The team arrived yesterday in Hollywood for the 2012 Year One EcoCAR 2 Competition Finals!  But, the team has not been able to relax and see Los Angeles yet. All the students have been busy finishing final presentations, practicing presenting and setting up the tradeshow display and the Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) for the presentations that begin tomorrow.

The competition opened tonight with “Welcome Night” for all of the EcoCAR teams. Speakers included the EcoCAR 2 organizers and competition sponsors.  In addition, the EcoCAR team’s skit videos were shown, and the OSU EcoCAR team has already brought home a trophy by winning the 1^st place skit video and $350! In addition, the team tied for 2^nd place for the Best HIL presentation from Winter Workshop in Austin, Texas. What a great way to start off the competition!!

The current standings for the competition were also announced. These include:

Outreach- 4^th place (nearly a tie, 1^st-4^th all within ONE point!!)
Business-3^rd place (nearly a tie)
Overall (out of 433 points):
6. University of Tennessee: 358 points
5. University of Washington: 360 points
4. Mississippi State: 401 points
3. The Ohio State University: 401 points
2. Virginia Tech: 403 points
1. University of Waterloo: 407 points

With more than 600 points to go in the competition, the final race will be a close one!!! Check back tomorrow for an update about Day 2 competition!
